CHEC has presented Heart Space OBX, Inc with a $4,700 grant made possible through the CoBank Sharing Success Grant Program. CoBank is a national cooperative bank that serves rural areas.
Heart Space OBX, a nonprofit located in Avon, has a mission to create a safe space for Hatteras Island youth and young adults to explore their artistic creativity for well-being. The group provides classes and studio space in their building, located on North End Rd, to teens and their families at no cost.
The cooperative gave $2,350 to Heart Space OBX, which was met with an additional $2,350 from CoBank, to support the purchase of equipment and materials for weaving, screen printing and block printing. These items will allow the group to offer new and different project and class options for their attendees and increase their reach to attracting new participants over the summer months.
This donation was made possible through CoBank’s “Sharing Success” charitable contribution program, which celebrates the vital role that cooperatives play in individual communities across the country. Concern for community is a long-standing cooperative principle. CHEC is happy to join CoBank in support of this worthy cause, as the cooperative works to provide value to members and support to the communities on Hatteras Island.
