CHEC awarded three scholarships to local seniors Sherlyn Medieta, Abby O’Neal and Grace Vernesoni. The scholarships are each worth $1,000 per semester that the student meets GPA qualifications, for up to eight semesters.
Grace Vernesoni (left), daughter of Jonathan and Nora Vernesoni of Buxton, will attend University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she will double major in neuroscience and statistics. She then plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in the medical field.
Abby O’Neal (middle), daughter of Jeremy and Katy O’Neal of Hatteras, will attend North Carolina State University to pursue a degree in teaching. She is looking forward to becoming the role model for young students that her teachers were for her. She hopes to return to Dare County to teach.
Sherlyn Mendiata (right), daughter of Jorge Mendiata and Edith Lozano Elizalde of Frisco, will attend University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she will pursue a degree in international business. She hopes to one day earn her real estate license and own an interior design business.
