Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative, an electric distribution cooperative located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is recruiting for the position of Electrical Engineer.
The Cooperative is headquartered in the village of Buxton and serves over 7,500 accounts on Hatteras Island which is in Dare County approximately 115 miles south of the Norfolk/ Virginia Beach area. The Atlantic Ocean can be viewed from over 90 miles of quiet unspoiled beaches which are under the stewardship of the National Park Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service. World class fishing and surfing as well as kite boarding and windsurfing provide year around recreation. Migratory and coastal birds can be viewed from the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge area and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the tallest brick lighthouse in the nation, being located here as well. Hatteras Island provides coastal living free from major commercial development and beach driving is permitted in many areas with a registered permit. The main industry is tourism and most of the Cooperative’s accounts are resort rental homes. Dare County provides excellent schools and medical services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Position requires Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from a four-year college. Professional Engineering license desirable.
Provides expertise and knowledge to ensure Corporation meets its short- and long-term electric service needs. Providesengineering services including design and cost estimates for construction and operation of the Corporation's electrical systems. Specific duties include (but are not limited to) installation, programming and maintenance of SCADA system, maintaining OMSmodel, programming and testing relays and recloser controls and other line equipment, conducting engineering studies,recordkeeping, data analysis and troubleshooting.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be skilled in communicating engineering designs and practices to technical and non-technical personnel. Must be able to interact effectively with related and unrelated disciplines within and outside the organization. Must be able to organize work, meet deadlines and perform varied projects concurrently. Must be able to prepare and present accurate technical and non-technical presentations using good oral and written skills. Proficiency with Word, Excel, Access, ArcGIS and PowerPoint is desirable. Knowledge of electric utility design and operations is essential, with cooperative experience desirable. Familiarity with the NESC, distribution line and substation design, transmission relaying and operations is desirable. Experience with computer networking, computer-based mapping and SCADA systems desired.
Outside work in all weather conditions may be occasionally required. Irregular hours, nights and weekends and infrequent travel outside the service area of the cooperative may be required.
