Each April, we celebrate the people who are so vital to making sure the lights come on every time we flip the switch: our linemen. This year, National Lineworker Appreciation Day is April 8, giving us an opportunity to thank our linemen for their dedication to safety and training, and their willingness to brave the elements to keep the power on. At CHEC, we are reminded of the value of our linemen every day.
Called to work in some of the most extreme weather conditions in the country, CHEC linemen are often the first on the scene of an emergency, seeing things that are devastating like car accidents, structure fires, and damage from severe storms. Regardless of the time of day or having to face challenging conditions, our linemen do whatever it takes to get the job done, ensuring Hatteras Island has reliable power.
Beyond the years of specialized training and apprenticeships, it takes fortitude and a mission-oriented outlook to be a good lineman. In fact, this service-oriented mentality is a hallmark characteristic of linemen. The job requires linemen to set aside their personal priorities to better serve Hatteras Island.
While our linemen may be the most visible employees at CHEC, it’s important to note that there is a team of highly skilled professionals working behind the scenes. Our engineering and operations staff work to ensure our entire system is operating efficiently and remains well maintained.
CHEC will celebrate Lineman Appreciation Day of April 8, honoring our line crews and our engineering and operations staff. Given the dedication of CHEC’s linemen and support staff, please take a moment and acknowledge their dedication to serving Hatteras Island.
To our heroes in hard hats, thank you for keeping the lights on!
